VW ID GTI Concept – With nostalgia for the future
Most likely in three years it will enter serial production as ID 2 with a price of less than 25,000 euros
Although electric, the GTI badge returns to the scene. One of the most striking appearances at the IAA was undoubtedly at the VW stand. However, when the ID GTI Concept announces that Wolfsburg is making electric mobility more affordable. The concept, based on the ID 2all study, has gathered great sympathy, so it is quite clear that the idea will have a positive epilogue.
When realized, this model will belong in the class of the current VW Polo, but due to the wheelbase of 2.6 meters it will have much more space inside. After the first wave of unusually shaped EVs, a shape that has become mandatory for all brands, it turned out that buyers are still inclined towards a classically designed body... And classical values, hand on heart, modified.
The design team led by chief designer Andreas Mindt was inspired by various generations of VW GTI vehicles. This approach yields an unusual cuteness seasoned with a large dose of nostalgia. Low silhouette, thrown fenders, wheels reminiscent of those of the 80s of the last century, will still be powered by an electric drive where the letter "I" will stand for "intelligence".
There is no word on what performance the future production GTI would have, but perhaps it can be speculated based on the already announced parameters for the ID 2all study. The platform will be used in Å koda and Cupra models. It has 38 and 56 kWh batteries. According to VW, the larger capacity can provide an autonomy of 450 km. It will charge with a power of 125 kW, which is enough to draw electricity from 10 to 80% in 20 minutes.
As for the power of the engine, it should exceed the limit of 170 kW and sprint to a hundred in less than 7 seconds. Unofficially, we learn that production should begin in late 2025, and the start of sales is planned for the first quarter of 2026. Until it hits the market enjoy the photos.
