McLaren – Artura Spider

McLaren has unveiled the open version of its Artura hybrid supercar, which also has a revised powertrain.

In addition, the company announced that a series of other improvements made during its construction will also be applied to the coupe. The folding hardtop made of carbon fiber and composite materials is powered by eight servo motors, which will open it in 11 seconds at speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour.

Its mechanism added 62 kilograms, but British engineers are proud that the spider has a record low weight in the segment. Optionally, the roof can be equipped with electrochromatic glass with adjustable transparency, which can block up to 95 percent of sunlight. For improved cooling, the rear part has optimized aerodynamic elements. The drive system from the three-liter turbo V6 with an electric motor has been recalibrated, giving it a total of 700 horsepower. Thanks to that, the performance is maintained as with the standard Artura – acceleration is in 3 seconds and the maximum speed is 330 kilometers per hour.

The electric range has now increased to 33 kilometers, and interestingly, current owners of the coupe will be able to update the drive system of their cars for free. Among other improvements, McLaren mentions an improved eight-speed transmission that allows for 25 percent faster gear changes, a new braking system and active suspension with better damper response. Sales of both versions of the modernized supercar will begin in the middle of the year.
