BMW M3 Neue Klasse – Coming in 2027

The Bavarians have confirmed that the new M3 will be electric, but the version with a classic engine remains

Two weeks after the presentation of the Vision Neue Klasse in Munich, another exciting news came from BMW. The next-generation M3, whose launch is tentatively scheduled for 2027, will have an all-electric version. According to the schedule announced by BMW, the new 3 series will debut in 2025 and it is quite expected that the powerful M3 performance will be launched after it.

The new platform enables great modularity of the drives, so it is not surprising that, in addition to the modern drive, there will also be a place for the classic. Such a decision will surely appeal to everyone who loves top performance spiced with the sound of cylinders and the smell of gasoline. A new engine is being worked on, most likely based on the existing "six", which will be tuned according to Euro 7 norms and should deliver more than the current 550 horses. Whether electrification will help in this is still not discussed. According to BMW's head of product development, Frank Weber, the Neue Klasse platform has great potential, especially for electric powertrains.

It can support power of up to 1,000 kW (1,340 hp) that would be obtained from four motors mounted on each wheel, but it remained reserved whether such a solution would be applied to the M3 EV and how much power would be in play. It will be worked on in the following years. If the M3 EV reaches approximate values, it will be twice the power of the internal combustion engine version. Moreover, the electric version will enter the company of hyper cars that will not be able to boast of their sound, but the performance will make up for that deficiency. A major advantage of the electric architecture is that it will allow drivers to have absolute control over the drive, individual adjustments and even to each wheel separately, suggesting torque vectoring.

The new features will deliver the performance that fans of the "world's fastest font" have come to expect. The M3 EV is all but certain to arrive in 2027, which is two years after the launch of the Neue Klasse (the new 3 Series). The Bavarians have never fired blanks and according to what has been said, it is certain that most of the planned solutions are in the final phase of conceptualization, after which the period of application and testing will follow. Time will tell if the period of four years is enough for the Octane-infected to accept the new electro shock that is being prepared in the laboratory M.
